Dear MBS Alumnus/a,
You will recall back in 2010 that we contacted you as part of a reconnection campaign with MBS, and that you expressed an interest in an MBS mentor program. Due to resource constraints, we have been doing a bit of work
on the development of the program, but nothing visible, until now.
We have been recently joined by Brad Adams (MBA 2006) who has volunteered to help flesh out the strategy and pull together the processes to properly launch the program. It's great to have him on board. The aim is to make
the program sustainable and ensure that all new students will be given the opportunity to have a mentor from the start of their time with MBS.
We intend to launch it for all full time students from September 2012, and have it form an integral part of the new curriculum, but commence later next month with a pilot program to iron out any problems with the processes. As
an interested party from early in the process, we would like to consider you for this pilot program.
We will send through more information and a detailed registration form in the coming weeks. Please note the
pilot program will only contain 20 partnerships, so there is a good chance that you will not be matched until the
main program begins in September.
You will be provided with training to ensure the partnership starts off on the right foot, as well as support along
the way for any unexpected questions. The official program will run for 11 months, however we will encourage you to continue your partnership afterwards. After all, why waste all that hard work getting to know each other?
As a Mentor you can expect some benefits that are hard to find elsewhere:
- An uplifting feeling of having a positive influence on another’s career and life
- Learning something new from a different perspective
- Reflect on your own career and how you have navigated through it
- Increase your network
- Re-engage with Melbourne Business School and other Alumni
We will be asking mentors to make the following commitment to the program:
- Desire to help and develop an MBS student further
- At least 1 meeting per month with your mentee
-
Compulsory Attendance of
- an initial training and launch event
- a mid program networking event
- a close out event
Another innovation we will be trialling this term is an informal mentor drop-in centre which will be run regularly throughout the term to allow students to gain that quick bit of advice. These sessions will have 3-4 mentors for a 2½ hour period where students will ‘drop in’ and ask a question. Further information will be in MBS Today, which will be coming out on Monday, and a subsequent e-mail will be sent shortly with more information about these sessions.
Thank you again for your interest in becoming a mentor. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact Brad via email.
We look forward to working with you on a successful mentoring program.
