Annual Alumni Dinner - 4th October, 2010
Registrations now open
|
| |
The Annual Alumni Dinner is Melbourne Business School’s (MBS) most prestigious event for its global community. For decades it has brought together our alumni, friends and faculty to engage with the School, rekindle old friendships and make new connections. The Annual Alumni Dinner also celebrates the achievements and contributions MBS alumni make to the global business community. Registration for this black-tie event is now open.
In 2010, ANZ Bank has become an annual premier sponsor of MBS's signature event to honour Charles Goode AC, who retired in February after 15 years as the Chairman of ANZ. Through the Charles Goode Oration, MBS and ANZ recognise his enormous contribution to Australian Business, including 16 years as Director of the MBS Foundation. Read more | | |

MBS networks help in new venture

Melbourne Business School alumnus Florian Poppe and his wife Claudia have been busy nursing two bundles of joy this year – and not just the infant kind.
In June, the couple launched MuesliMixer, an online customised breakfast store, which allows customers to design their own muesli mix from more than 55 ingredients. Less than three months after the business launch, the couple – who moved from Germany to Australia in 2006 – welcomed baby Julia into their online world of honey toasted oats, mulberries, flaked almonds, and wheat pillows.

Recommended faculty reads
Science: A History 1534-2001
|
| |
|
Each month a MBS faculty member will recommend a book they have read recently. This month Professor Chris Lloyd, Associate Dean of Research recommends Science: A History 1534-2001 by John Gribbin.
In this book, John Gribbin tells the story of the people who made science and the turbulent times they lived in. As well as famous figures such as Copernicus, Darwin and Einstein, there are also the obscure, the eccentric, even the mad. This book gives a detailed history of the developments of science, focusing on biographical background as a means of aquiring a greater understanding of what was happening as the developments were unfolding. The main point of his book, outside of simply being a history of science, is to argue for an "evolutionary" view of the development of science, meaning that science moves forward in a progressive, step-by-step manner rather than by sudden revolutions.
