Update from John Seybolt, Dean and Director |

Since the last MBS Today, Victoria has suffered Black Saturday. Many of you have been affected directly or indirectly and the thoughts of all of us are with you. Many here at MBS have taken steps, large and small, to offer help in many ways and I thank you for that on behalf of us all.

On a brighter note, I am pleased to announce that Jonathan Cosgrove has been appointed Manager – Alumni, Community and Donor Relations.  Read more

Bushfires and the Business School: what’s our role? |
Jill G. Klein – Professor of Management, Marketing

Like everyone at the School, I've been deeply saddened by the recent bushfires that have ravaged Victoria.  At what is still a very raw and emotional time, our hearts go out to everyone who has been affected by this tragedy.

Yet I know that as a business school we are not powerless to help.  There have been many varied and generous ways that staff and students have come together to show their support over the last couple of weeks.  And an important avenue of contribution from faculty is undertaking research in how we can better manage the aftermath of such disasters.  Read more

Philosophy for Business: Reason and Desire |
Don't miss this new breakfast seminar series for MBS alumni and students

Philosopher-in-residence at MBS, John Armstrong, introduces twelve of the most significant philosophical ideas – ideas that have the power to change the world. Explore how these ideas can help us think about business – and help us think in business.

At a time of historic economic change and turmoil it is crucially important that businesses think broadly and deeply about fundamental questions. In these seminars you will learn how to think clearly and constructively about some of the great issues that face business (and people involved with business) today.  Places are limited.  Register online

Your knowledge can help |
2009 will undoubtedly be a challenging year for alumni and students seeking a career or job change.

At MBS, we’re working to help the soon-to-be graduating Class of 2009 secure new career opportunities.  Our newest Student Profile book highlights the diversity and talent of the graduating class and interns.

In the current climate, the hidden job market is a more valuable source of new opportunities than any other.  That’s why our students are being encouraged by the School to tap into a supportive, knowledgeable and well-networked alumni community.  Now, more than ever before, your advice, ideas and suggestions can make a real difference as students seek roles commensurate with their talent. Read more
