All the world's a stage |
A new view for John Onto, Professorial Fellow (Professor of Negotiations) as he steps down from his full-time role at MBS

All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts,
His acts being seven ages.
As You Like It Act 2, scene 7, 139–143

Like the Shakespearean quote, John Onto’s career has unfolded in seven ages.  Although he has by no means reached his final destination, he’s clearly enjoying the view from where he now stands, having stepped down last month from his full-time role at MBS.  Read more.

Recession Marketing: New Game. New Rules |
Jodie Evans, Senior Lecturer - Marketing, MBS discusses Australian marketers and the potential for a recession

Knee jerk reactions by nervous marketers are pushing Australian consumers more deeply into recession. But as marketers, are we simply catastrophising the situation and in so doing are we talking ourselves into a recession?

What does Australia know about the MBA? |
MBS Careers Consultant and current MBA student, Ed Cook, considers how the MBA is perceived in a market that, perhaps, doesn’t truly recognise its value

Yesterday I was speaking to a recruitment consultant about a role that I thought might be suitable for an MBA graduate from MBS.  The role involved giving advice to franchisees with regard to improving the performance of their franchise.

When I had finished explaining the background of MBS graduates the recruiter said “The MBA is by-the-by, what my client is really interested in is the person’s experience.”  Read more

Fighting and lying: It’s all in a day’s research |
Karen Jehn - Professor of Management (Organisational Behaviour) is our School's newest faculty recruit

Ever had that suspicious feeling that someone is lying to you?  Research by Melbourne Business School’s newest faculty recruit, Professor Karen Jehn, has discovered exactly what it is that causes you to interpret whether someone is lying.

The outcome is that Professor Jehn can teach people how to lie really well (within reason) but also how they can tell the truth really well, so that other people do not misinterpret them. Read more
